Jefferson’s – We’ve Got a Friend
Over a decade ago I was listening to an interview with Carole King and James Taylor when they were doing their ‘Live at the Troubadour’ tour. At one point in the interview, they were asked,
“What was it like to be making music at the crossroads of everything that was happening musically early in your careers? To be part of that Movement?”
After a pause, Carole King answered,”We weren’t aware that it was a movement, we were just IN IT. …” It was a lively time. Everyone would get together and help each other out with their songs and try to advance one another.”
“We were just IN IT.”
I guess you could say this sums up the realization when you don’t fully realize what is happening. In this last year of new challenges and unknowns due to a worldwide pandemic, I have come back to those words, “…we were just IN IT.” And it’s safe to say that only time will render a true vision of just exactly what Covid-19 has meant to us as a global community. Right now, we just don’t know.
The second half of her answer.
”Everyone would get together and help each other out with their songs…”
That’s the way King defines the Movement. People stepping in to help each other out. It’s interesting that such a significant creative slice of musical history was made by people simply getting together and extending themselves. At LINK we have seen this time and time again, during our current slice of history.
A real champion in our local “Pandemic Movement” has been Brandon Graham’s team from Jefferson’s restaurant in Lawrence. When our regular volunteer serving groups opted out of service, due to safety concerns, Brandon contacted LINK to ask how he could be of service. Brandon regularly sent a group from Jefferson’s down to LINK to help Bonnie on the days when we didn’t have a serving group.
LINK would like to thank Jefferson’s for their concern and consistent presence over this last year in helping us continue to offer meals and friendship to anyone, regardless of circumstances.
Thank You Jefferson’s!
