LINK Guests Put Their Scarves Away
The upshot of being involved with L.I.N.K. is the unexpected kindness that shows up at the door. In February, during the coldest spell that Lawrence has experienced in a long time, KU’s Warm the World appeared at LINK’s door with handmade scarves and hats for our guests.
How does KU Warm the World?
Warm the World invites anyone at KU and the surrounding Lawrence area to meet every other week to create clothing items, such as hats, scarves, blankets, etc. for the homeless. These items are then donated to shelters and soup kitchens throughout the Lawrence area. Overall, the vision of this organization is to create a community where those who have no choice but to sleep outside can at least have the means to stay warm. Don’t worry if you’ve never held a knitting needle or crochet hook in your life! We’re happy to teach anyone willing to come. All materials are provided, and all skill levels are welcome!
Imagine the warmth of brand new outerwear made with love and kindness! For our neighbors who struggle in the cold all winter, for an undetermined amount of time, who need nourishment as well as shelter, think about how a handmade hat or scarf warms the heart as well as the body. It is nothing short of a privilege to bear witness to this.
Fortunately Spring will officially be here in a few short weeks. The hats and scarves can be tucked away. And hopefully soon, our guests will be able to join us in the dining room for lunch and fellowship.
Be well everyone!
