I was chatting with a woman at LINK, when she caught the eye of someone passing by. She asked him about a pair of shoes. He ran off and told her he would be right back, and I asked her what they were talking about. She explained to me at the last LINK meal the man had noticed that she had mismatched shoes. One of her shoes had been stolen. He asked her what size shoe she wore. He later explained to me that he had a number of shoes at home, and he “just can’t wear them all”, so he had promised her at the next meal he would bring her one of his pairs of size 10 wides.

I love LINK for the same reasons so many others do. I appreciate we have an environment that supports the fundamental right we should all have to a good meal. The very core of the organization helps to provide this basic human right to nutrition. So many different individuals and groups come together in our community to help everyone get fed. As I watched the man return to one of the tables at LINK to give his friend a pair of his shoes, it was true pleasure to witness the broad impact LINK has to build friendships in our community as we sit around the table to eat together.
